La Classificazione e la Certificazione di navi costituiscono le attività istituzionali del RINA fin dalla sua fondazione nel 1861.

 
Socio membro dell'IACS, il RINA è autorizzato ad operare per conto dell'Amministrazione Italiana in conformità con la Direttiva EU 94/57 e di circa altre 70 amministrazioni di bandiera.

Dal supporto tecnologico in fase di progettazione alla sorveglianza costruzione, dalla gestione della nave all'assistenza tecnica durante la manutenzione, l'obiettivo è assicurare ad armatori e cantieri il raggiungimento di elevati standards di qualità e sicurezza.

Oltre alla tradizionale attività di classificazione di navi, il settore marine del RINA comprende:

• Classificazione di yacht
• Assistenza tecnica
• Progetti e studi di Ricerca
• Servizi per oil & gas 

RINA has been responsible for ship classification and certification since its establishment in 1861.

A founding member of IACS, RINA is authorized to act on behalf of the Italian Administration in accordance with EU Directive 94/57 and by approximately 70 other flag administrations.

From initial design and construction to ship management and crew and port interface, the focus of the new activities is to ensure owners and shipyards the safety, security and quality standards set by the shipping industry.

In addition to the traditional classification of merchant ships, the RINA marine sector also covers:
